Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Technology is changing quickly, and some scammers now use AI to try to trick people. AI means Artificial Intelligence.

What can AI do?

AI can do lots of clever things, such as:

  • Write messages
  • Copy someone’s voice
  • Make fake videos
  • Pretend to be real people online

Sometimes this is used for fun or helpful tools, but scammers can also use it to mislead people. This is why it’s important to be careful when you get messages about your money or your pension.

What are deepfake videos?

A deepfake is a video made by AI. It looks real, but it has been changed or created to trick you.

A deepfake might:

  • Show a person saying something they never said
  • Use a copied voice that sounds just like them
  • Look like someone you trust, even though it isn’t them at all

Deepfakes are often used to get people to hand over money or private information.

Be careful with personal information

Some websites and apps have AI chat tools that say they can help with money or advice.

These tools might be helpful, but you should never put your private pension details into any AI system.

Do not share:

  • Your pension account number
  • Payslips
  • Pension letters and statements
  • Your date of birth or home address
  • Your National Insurance number

Once you enter your information online, you may not know where it goes or who can see it.
