LGPS Councillor

Councillors in Wales are eligible to participate in the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Their membership and benefits are governed by the Local Government Pension Scheme Regulations 1997, which set out the legal framework for how the scheme operates.

In contrast, councillors in England are covered by different pension rules. This means that the LGPS rules for councillors in Wales remain distinct from those that apply to councillors in England.
